It connects Philips NatLab in Eindhoven to a virtual environment as part of the 2009 Dutch Design Week. Avatars will be able to play a physical synthesizer in the Philips NatLab via an interactive online virtual instrument built by IDIA - located near a 3D model of the Eindoven High Tech Campus. Het verbindt Philips Natlab in Eindhoven naar een virutele omgeving als onderdeel van de Dutch Design Week 2009. Avatars zullen in staat kunnen zijn om een fysieke synthesizer te spelen via een interactieve online virtueel instrument gebouwd door IDIA- gelegen vlakbij een 3D model van de Eindhovense High Tech Campus. Het geluid van de live- synthesizer zal worden terug gestreamd in Second Life, zodat virtuele en fysieke deelnemers hun interacties met het instrument kunnen horen. |

PulsThe exhibition PULS is composed with the genius loci of the Natlab (former Philips' research laboratory) in mind. The selected artists are scientist and creator, artist and technician, engineer and designer. They analyze and experiment, and particularly in this cross-pollination, the strength of their work, only that this mindset has to occur. Philips was particularly interested in the analysis, coding, transmission and reproduction of seeing and hearing. The artists of PULS have extended this study to an even more direct and immediate sensation feel, taste and smell. Is there any difference between what the NatLab intended and what the artists present? Yes. Philips intended to make the technology invisible. The goal was to get rid of the technique and the subservient attitude towards a experience. The artists play a game with engineering, production and perception of the experience. They theme this: it is their subject and interest. PulsDe expositie PULS is samengesteld met de genius loci van het Natlab (voormalig Philips’ onderzoekslaboratorium) in gedachten. De geselecteerde kunstenaars zijn wetenschapper en maker, kunstenaar en techneut, designer en ingenieur. Ze analyseren en experimenteren, en juist in deze kruisbestuiving ligt de kracht van hun werk, dat alleen met deze mindset heeft kunnen ontstaan. Philips was vooral geïnteresseerd in de analyse, codering, transmissie en reproductie van zien en horen. De kunstenaars van PULS hebben dit onderzoek uitgebreid naar de nog onmiddellijkere en directere sensaties voelen, proeven en ruiken. Is er dan geen enkel verschil tussen dat wat het NatLab beoogde en wat de kunstenaars presenteren? Jawel. Philips beoogde de techniek onzichtbaar te maken. Het doel was het laten verdwijnen van de techniek en het dienstbaar opstellen ten opzichte van ervaring. De kunstenaars spelen een spel met techniek, de productie van de waarneming en de ervaring. Ze thematiseren deze: het middel is hun onderwerp en interesse.
