Isaiah 55:5
surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations that do not
know you will hasten
to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he
has endowed you with splendour." |
Luke 23:33 when they came to the place called the
skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals--one on his
right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, "father, forgive
them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they
divided up his clothes by casting lots. 35 The people stood watching,
and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "he saved others; let
him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the chosen one." 36 The
soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37
and said, "if you are the king of the Jews, save yourself." 38 There
was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the
Jews. |

| Isaiah 55:6
seek the lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7
Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him
turn to the lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he
will freely pardon. |
Luke 23:39 One of the criminals who hung there
hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said,
"since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for
we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing
wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your
kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today
you will be with me in paradise." |

| psalm 22:9 yet you brought me out of the womb; you
made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. 10 From birth I was
cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my god. 11 Do not be
far from me, for trouble is near and there is no-one to help. 12 Many
bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. 13 Roaring lions
tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me. |
john 19:25 near the cross of Jesus stood his
mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary
Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he
loved standing near by, he said to his mother, "dear woman,
here is your son," 27 and to the disciple, "Here is
your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into
his home. |

| psalm 22:1 my God, my God, why have you
forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from
the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not
answer, by night, and am not silent. 3 Yet you are enthroned as the
holy one; you are the praise of Israel. 4 In you our fathers put their
trust; they trusted and you delivered them. 5 They cried to you and
were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. 6 But I am a
worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. 7 All
who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: 8 "he
trusts in the lord; let the lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since
he delights in him." |
Matthew 27:46 about the ninth hour Jesus
cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama
sabachthani?" --which means, "My God, my God, why
have you forsaken me?" |

| psalm 22: 14 I am poured out like water, and all
my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted
away within me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in
the dust of death. 16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has
encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I can count
all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. 18 They divide my
garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. 19 But you, O LORD,
be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. 20 Deliver my
life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. 21
Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the
wild oxen. |
John 19:28 Later, knowing that all was
now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus
said, "I am thirsty." |

| (Ps 22:22)
I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will
praise you. 23 You who fear the lord, praise him! All you descendants
of Jacob, honour him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! 24 For
he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he
has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before
those who fear you will I fulfil my vows. 26 The poor will eat and be
satisfied; they who seek the lord will praise him--may your hearts live
for ever! 27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the
lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, 28
for dominion belongs to the lord and he rules over the nations. 29 All
the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the
dust will kneel before him--those who cannot keep themselves alive. 30
Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the
lord. 31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn--for
he has done it. |
john 19:29 a jar of wine vinegar was there, so
they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop
plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. 30 When he had received the drink,
Jesus said, "it is finished."
With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. |

| psalm 31:5 into your hands I commit my
spirit; redeem me, o lord, the God of truth… 8 you have not
handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place…
12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like
broken pottery…. 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful
love to me when I was in a besieged city. 22 In my alarm I said, "I am
cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called
to you for help. |
Lucas 23:44 It was now about the sixth hour, and
darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 for the sun
stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46
Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands
I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his
last. |
