If you have digitized something, you can prevent total destruction by spreading redundant copies (i.e. backups). If it was possible I would even digitize myself (usually referred to as uploading). And then I would spread a lot of copies to prevent my permanent death (information death). Ofcourse one would have to encrypt these copies to prevent abuse. However it looks like I will have to wait a couple of years (probably some hundred years) before the technology will be available. But I'm convinced it will be, some day . . .
