History

Starting a church in Eindhoven was the initiative of Hans and Ans van Erp. They were baptized in 1976 and had been worshipping in Amsterdam, Aachen (Germany) and Hasselt (Belgium). In 1988 they rented a house for 2 months in a town next to Eindhoven to host a Lets Start Talking (LST) project. Some people continued to study with Hans and Ans and eventually one of them was baptized in March 1989.

In 1989 Hans and Ans took a huge leap of faith resulting in the purchase of an old building in Eindhoven. With several months of hard work it was changed into a place of worship. At that time worship was held in a small circle of 4 adults and 4 children. Later, as the congregation grew, the worship leadership was performed by the men of the church with guest speakers from other churches coming regularly to help out. The church slowly grew and also Christians form elsewhere moved to Eindhoven and started woshipping with us. This included two LST campaigners who ended up marrying their favourite readers.

In June 1997 the Albers family came to Eindhoven as full time missionaries. At that time the group counted about 25 regular attendants. Troy and Amy's arrival was a significant mile stone for the congregation. We now had the human resources to perform follow up on the LST contacts, Troy could take a large part of the preaching and teaching burden and they were able to take initiatives that otherwise would never have been taken. Upon their departure in June 2000 a large void was left behind and only part of their work could be taken over by others even though the group had grown to about 40. In October of 2000 the church moved to a new location with a larger auditorium and space for Sunday school classrooms.

The congregation has had quite a bit of American influence over the years which was beneficial for it's growth. The yearly LST campaigns have had varying success but on the whole have played a very important role in the development of the congregation. Unfortunately, in the later half of 2001 most of the Americans worshipping with us returned to the USA, leaving us with about 45 people.
